Website design services FAQs

When deciding on a platform to launch your small business website, it’s essential to consider your specific needs and the future of your brand. If you’re running an e-commerce business, a platform such as Shopify is an excellent option, as it offers built-in tools for managing products, payments, and inventory. For a service-based website or a site focused on content, WordPress or Squarespace might be a better fit, providing flexibility in design and functionality. Think about where you see your business in the next few years; you’ll want a platform that can grow with you to avoid the challenges of switching platforms later. Choosing the right platform from the start ensures your website can adapt as your business expands and evolves.

The time it takes to build a website depends on several factors, primarily the complexity of the design and the level of functionality required. A simple, straightforward website with a few pages and basic features can often be completed within a week, whereas a more intricate sites such as an e-commerce store or a custom-designed site with advanced features can take several weeks to a few months to fully develop. The timeline is also influenced by whether content, like text and images, is provided upfront or needs to be created as part of the project. If content writing or additional design assets are required, this can extend the timeline slightly, as we want to ensure everything aligns with your brand and objectives.

The upfront costs for a website depend on the platform you choose and the level of functionality required. For example, platforms like WordPress and Shopify have different pricing structures. WordPress requires hosting and may involve additional costs for themes or plugins, while Shopify includes hosting as part of its subscription. Regardless of the platform, you’ll also need to pay for your domain name, which typically costs around £10-£20 per year.

Our website design and development services are a one-off cost for the launch, covering everything from design to building your site and training you to use it. However, if you’d like ongoing support, we offer a monthly retainer option, which can be used for updates, maintenance, and help with any issues that may arise as your site grows and evolves. This ensures that your website remains functional, secure, and up-to-date without having to manage everything yourself.

The process of working with me on your website design begins with an initial call where we discuss your requirements, goals, and preferences. Based on that conversation, we’ll create a proposal deck that includes some mock-ups and a breakdown of costs. If you’re happy with the direction, we’ll finalise a rough timeline and get started on the design and development. As we near completion, I’ll give you access to the site so you can review it and make any final tweaks before launch. Once everything looks great, we’ll conduct a thorough quality check to ensure everything works smoothly, and we’ll monitor the site post-launch to address any potential issues. Additionally, you can choose to use our SEO services as well. We will however incorporate basic SEO when we design the site.

As part of our package, we offer training on how to use the CMS, ensuring you feel confident managing your site independently. If you’d prefer ongoing support, we also offer retainer services, where we can continue to work with you after the launch. This allows us to be an extension of your team, providing guidance and assistance whenever you need it, so you’re never left stuck or unsure of how to proceed. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
